Bug Description
The ISO image titled "warty-
Macintosh PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.3.7, causes a crash in Disk Utility whenever Disk
Utility is launched if that image has been mounted, or whenever the image is mounted if
Disk Utility is already running. Disk Utility reports it needs a background process that
didn't launch properly, and asks the user to quit and relaunch Disk Utility, but that
doesn't help. Other ISO images downloaded from other sources, such as Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 4 distribution ISOs, are compatible with Disk Utility.

This is a Disk Utility bug (actually hdiutil); no image should ever be able to
cause Disk Utility to crash, no matter what its contents.
That said, I've had a success report with Disk Utility from a user running OS X
10.3.8. Perhaps try upgrading?
