wrong permissions on /etc/lirc

Bug Description

Binary package hint: lirc

Version:0.8.2-0ubuntu4

1) install lirc and rhythmbox.
2) set up lirc, and check it works as root
3) as user, start rhythmbox from a terminal. Resulting message:
lircrcd: could not delete /etc/lirc//lircrcd
lircrcd: Permission denied
Result: remote does not control rhythmbox

4) as root, chmod a+rwx /etc/lirc && cd /etc/lirc && chmod a+r lir*
5) as user, start rhythmbox from terminal. Resulting message:
lircrcd: could not set file permissions
lircrcd: Operation not permitted
Result: remote does control rhythmbox

Hi, thanks for the bug report. Can you provide some more information though? The standard lirc install doesn't configure a file called /etc/lirc/lircrcd. So what did you do when you said 'set up lirc'? Also, what is rhythmbox trying to do by modifying files in /etc/lirc? The only file that should be readable to users is /etc/lirc/lircd.conf. None of them should be editable other than by root.

This issue is not with lirc itself. It looks like rhythmbox is trying to write to a directory that it doesn't own (/etc/lirc). If anything, this bug should be filed against it.
