[Impact]
A user with 12.04 + Trusty HWE to support RTL8188 is missing the matching firmware since it is not included in the 12.04 linux-firmware package; It is in the 13.04 and later packages.

Accepted linux-firmware into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/1.79.17 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
