Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Version: Gutsy Gibbons Tribe 5
Default language support: Macedonian

Most of the menus are in Macedonian, but the ubuntu-docs remain in English.
Most of the templates are translated in Roseta (ex. https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+source/ubuntu-docs/+pots/administrative).

All of the menu items are contained within /libs/gnome-menus-C.ent, but there doesn't seem to be a translation template for this file.

This is a recurring issue. There were some initial translations in edgy that never landed in the monthly translation updates, and there were no translations in feisty, even though, many of the templates in ubuntu-docs were translated before feisty string freeze. At the moment 15 of 18 templates are translated through rosseta.

Phil, I really don't know what you mean by the previous post and what I as a translator can do about the issue.

We haven't uploaded translations yet for gutsy.

For Feisty, the Macedonian translation all appear to be present in our
package. Is nothing appearing at all?

Well if you go to the Систем (that's macedonian for System), then Help and Support (don't know why this isn't localized) you get the english help and the links inside follow the english documents. For example, the first one is "New to Ubuntu", which leads to /usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/C/newtoubuntu.xml. Now, I checked, the macedonian translation exists under /usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/mk/newtoubuntu.xml, so I don't know what's the problem then. Yelp? Something with the menus (which btw do have some strange things...)?
Oh, I did check /usr/share/gnome/help/*/mk/* some months ago, and I've noticed some problems (inconsistencies), but I'll need some time to check that again.

Ah, I know what the problem is. Scrollkeeper doesn't support -mk. (See the list at /usr/share/scrollkeeper/Templates)

This may be improved in the next release with Rarian - Don, do you know?

Rarian doesn't care what language it's in. If the LANGUAGE environment variable is set to "mk" (has mk as it's first element) then the docs will be picked up if they exist (i.e. it will find aboutubuntu-mk.omf first). If it doesn't, yelp will fall back to the next available language and so on. If none are found, it'll resort to C.

The upshot of all this is, yes, the bug *should* be fixed in Gutsy (GNOME 2.20).

There hasn't been any activity in this report recently. Is this still an issue ? Has it been fixed in Gutsy or Hardy ?

Thanks

This is not an issue in Gutsy and Hardy. It is still an issue for Dapper and Feisty. Still, this bug was filled for Gutsy, so it should be closed.
