Bug Description
Both the "mute" key and the volume keys on my HP dv9000 laptop affect the internal microphone instead of the master output level. I see the OSD (new in gutsy), but the playback volume does not change and when I open the volume control from the volume applet (using "Open Volume Control"), I see that the rightmost sliders labeled "Int Mic" are affected by the HW multimedia buttons. The applet correctly affects the "Master" volume.
system.product: HP Pavilion dv9000 (RD860AV#ABA) Rev 1
My previous HP dv9000 running 6.10 did handle the HW buttons correctly. This machine did the same (modify Mic instead of master) for 7.04 as well.
I'm happy to provide more info and/or test patches/new kernels if needed.
Best,
Norbert
Ok, I figured it out what was wrong and it has nothing to do with the kernel...
The problem was that for some reason, the device that is controlled via the keyboard was configured to be the Internal Mic. I opened the "System- >Preferences- >Sound" and changed it to "Master" and everything is working now.
Still a bit confusing to have preferences for volume in the volume applet, in the volume control (opened from volume applet), and in the Sound preferences.
Hope this bug report and it's solution helps someone else.
Seems I can't close this bug myself, so whoever has the power please close it.
Best,
Norbert
