I had a similar issue with Ubuntu Gnome after upgrading to 14.10. Had a double mouse pointer, but only on the main screen, not on the two other screens. Disabled screens one by one and renabled them and the problem was solved. Don't know if this is related to your problem, seems more like a gnome problem and as you are using xfce, it might be something else.

Also sometimes instead of double (and even triple) coursor, I get an image stuck to the cursor - often it is a hyperlink in the browser

CatalunyaLliure, as per http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK an update to your BIOS is available (1.70). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

I get this a lot myself. The only temporary solution is to reboot but it comes back eventually. I'm already on my latest BIOS. Xubuntu 14.10

This also seems identical to bug 1396361.

I've found the reason of this bug (at least in my case)
Double cursor appears once the cursor moves over item with custom CSS cursor property as "cursor:url('link_to_cursor')"

I have the same problem in Utopic AMD64 with MATE 1.8.1; this began immediately on my upgrade from Trusty to Utopic and continues to the present. I have a double mouse pointer appear intermittently during web browsing, and then it persists; only the left pointer is active. If I log out and back in, the single mouse pointer is restored. This is a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with the latest BIOS, and I am fully updated with no broken packages or anything.

@Christopher M. Penalver: This bug is still incomplete as the TO did not respond for more that 2 months now. I can reproduce it reliably on a Thinkpad T500 Bios 6FET93WW (3.23 ) (duplicate 1414778). What information do you need?

This affected me too.
I was opening some image in Image Viewer 3.12.2. While dragging image to other part of screen, cursor duplicated to 2 cursors out of which left one is working as normal pointer.

Fresh Installed Lubuntu 14.10 (x64) has this issue.

It happens more frequently in drag operations.

This is my mother's old laptop so I won't be able to report any further.

Note: The cursor is restored to normal if you get to a terminal (Ctrl+alt+F1) and then return to X (Ctrl+Alt+F7).

Thanks to strange1712 (tonatiuhmiramontes) tip: hitting CTRL +ALT + F1 and then CTRL + ALT + F7 works, and it is much better than rebooting...
