Bug Description

Canon ip4000 printer always tries to print on paper, even when I choose CD-Tray in printer settings (on feisty) :(
This is a regression, because there was no problems with Canon Pixma ip4000 on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy), also I got successful results when installed gutenprint 5.0.0 (from Edgy) in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty).

Also I tried to use gutenprint 5.0.1 backported from Gutsy to Feisty (backported gutenprint packages are at official Baltix GNU/Linux repository - http://ftp.akl.lt/baltix-linux/Baltix-Ubuntu-packages/feisty/gutenprint/ ) and noticed, that with 5.0.1 CD printing works, but with gutenprint from Feisty and Gutsy Canon Pixma ip4000 prints wrong colors and has other bugs, like horizontal white lines in bigger blue areas, also some yellow or red object are printed blurry :(

So, this bug should be fixed at least in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) by including backported gutenprint 5.0.1 into official ubuntu-backports repositories.

What program were you using to print CD tray from?
I'd like to test it with Gutsy, using ip3000 and ip4200 printers.

I've tried to print with Inkscape and The GIMP. With gutenprint 5.0.1
packages, backported from Gutsy to Feisty, CD printing works, while
with gutenprint 5.0.0.99 from Feisty - not.

Please, also test your printing quality when you will print - look at
bugs https://launchpad.net/bugs/120016 and
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1795881&group_id=1537&atid=101537

Please write comments on these printing quality bugs if you notice
something, that could help gutenprint developers to fix these bugs.

Colors seems ok altough there are small white stripes visible on ip3000, but positioning is way wrong.

I used Gimp, with built in CD template and then tried to print it.

1. Paper Type -> CD, all other settings untouched
Result: image printed one third left off the center

2. Paper Type -> CD, Paper source -> CD Tray
Result: Image printed only a small portion on the right bottom

3. Paper Type -> CD, Paper source -> CD Tray, Image Settings -> CD 5 inch
Result: Image printed only on the small part on top

Did you use any other settings for printing, to make it print on right position?

Hardy now has gutenprint 5.0.2. Could either of you test with that?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

It is still an issue! There is no way to use printable media with any Linux distribution.
