ubiquity freezes during hardware configuration

I happened to me too. Trying to install the Gutsy image of 19-Sep-2007 and 21-Sep-2007. My system is a Macbook Pro Core Duo, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 and I need to use the Atheros driver for wireless, but I think that I have the ipw4935 card.

But this is not the only problem that I had, I have been trying to install the OS several times, sometimes happens this, but also sometimes Ubiquity doesn't start at all, sometimes it hangs when trying to launch the partitioner, sometimes hangs when installing the system (at 27%).

It seems that Ubiquity is not working well at all, it hangs randomly during the installation process at different moments. I have seen several bugs all saying the same: Ubiquity hangs when X, hangs at X progress bar.

This is most likely due to a bug in unionfs that will be fixed soon. I will follow up and ask you to try a new daily build when that issue has been resolved.

OK, the daily live CD builds should be stable again. Can you download the latest daily live CD (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/) and see if you are able to reproduce this bug?

Is it enough to update the packages or has it to be a new daily life?

no more problems on the beta release of Gutsy (Kubuntu and Ubuntu).

The Ubuntu Beta release worked fine with my laptop! Sometimes the installer seemed to freeze but after taking a good coffee and a little bit endurance the installation progress went on. I'd say it is no longer a real bug but the installation could be more fluent. So I think we can close the bug.

I'll test test a new live-cd in the next days again. If I'll have problems I'll report them.

The Ubuntu and Kubuntu Beta Releases have fixed this error. Thanks Evan.
