package shim-signed 1.6+0.4-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

This is a bug in the shim-signed package. Versions of shim-signed in 14.04 and later rely on the --target feature of grub-install, which is only available in grub 2.00 and above. So shim-signed should have a versioned dependency on grub2-common.

Your attached logs also show that you have tried to run 'apt-get upgrade' to upgrade between precise and trusty. Please note that this is absolutely unsupported. 'apt-get upgrade' will not install new packages, which is a requirement when upgrading between major releases. You must at minimum run 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. It is recommended that you run 'do-release-upgrade' for commandline upgrades between releases, or use 'update-manager' for desktop upgrades.

I am stucked now. System boots.. login prompt appears.. when i login.. it
says failed to load session Ubuntu.
I tried Ctrl+Alt+F1.. it shows Ubuntu 14.04.02 LTS.

It tried changing lightdm.conf user-session to mate .. then to unity-2d ...
but nothing works..

Please share a solution. I am at no-man's land.

This bug was fixed in the package shim-signed - 1.10

Won't Fix for Vivid too; but we might as well ship the fixes for this backporting shim-signed from yakkety when landing Secure Boot support code.

This bug was fixed in the package shim-signed - 1.17~14.04.1
