xv video shows garbage after running compiz

Bug Description

After running compiz, all my xv videos start to display random garbage. This happens for mplayer and mythtv. If I change the output of mplayer to opengl it works fine. I dont know any workarounds for mythtv except to restart the X server. Once in a while my X will crash on me. Like after I took the screen shot, I closed mythtv and right then my X restarted.

I have the same problem with xv driver for xine or mplayer : my videos are just green garbage.
If I switch to xshm driver, it works, but with some programs like Miro, I searched all the afternoon to find how to change the video driver and I didn't find the answer.
I am on Gutsy with 100.14.19 nvidia drivers.

I got around this by installing the 100.14.09 driver.

I downloaded the driver from nvidia site and I used the instructions
to install it from the forums.

Instructions:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490

Driver download:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_100.14.09.html

If you don't know how to work without X (your display with mouse), I
would not suggest trying to install it as you WILL loose your display.

I know how to do this, I'm trying to use compiz with my nvidia and twinview
for a while -> with 100.14.09 the legendary window bug is still here, not
with 14.19 that(s why I can't downgrade :(

The exact same thing is happening here (same corrupt image as above PNG. I'm guessing that it's a bug inadvertently introduced by nVidia between 100.14.09 and 100.14.19. Here are my hardware specs:

nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600/GeForce 6600 GT] rev 162

I also experience this bug on my up-to-date i686 gutsy install (nividia driver 100.14.19). To clarify the original poster though, the bug is caused by turning compiz on AND THEN OFF. i.e., it's the on -> off part that causes it, at least for me. (And turning it on again does not make it go away.)

I can confirm Rav's findings regarding the 169-series NVIDIA drivers. I am using 169.09 now (installed from the hardy repos, with a workaround for bug 192524) and this problem no longer occurs.
