Bug Description

Hello,

I recently kicked Bill Gates to the curb and loaded Ubuntu 7.04. First, I have to say I love it! Now for the bug:
After restarting the my laptop (asus) the Grub said my /sda1 hadn't been checked in 34 times, then it started to "force check". It took about 7 minutes. Once I got to my GUI I discovered that several system setting (GUI looks) had changed. Ie: no icons in top panel, no files would show up in windows. I went into settings and resolved those problems. However, the Maximize, Minimize and Close buttons on the right of each window bar and the icon on the left and skewed to the center. Depending on the size of the window the buttons and icon will cover the text in the center.

On the day this was discovered, I downloaded several automatic open office updates. Ubuntu 7.04 Since then I can no longer get the backspace key to do continuous deletion by holding the key down as well. I have to backspace one key at a time.

Was there a bug in this large group of updates? The update occured on OCT 6. I have troubleshot this bug to the best of my ability. Your assistance is much appreciated.

Thank you, LiveJazz

I have since solved the backspace problem. Yet again it was a system setting. I am still at a loss trying to solve the window bar issue. See attached.

I decided to create a new account just to see what would happen. I quickly found out that all the System Preferences remained messed up. See above, also the screen goes dark due to the System Preferences not being set correctly. Its as if once those automatic updates occurred, the OS was in tact but no System "Default" Preferences were set.

Again, Thank you in advance of any assistance,
LiveJazz

Just curious why this was marked as invalid when it is an obvious problem. I created a new account and since the "force check" almost all default preferences are unchecked.

It was marked as invalid for the Launchpad bug tracker software because it is a problem with Ubuntu, not a problem with the Launchpad bug tracker software.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release?

If it's still an issue, are you using metacity or compiz ?

Thanks in advance.
