Bug Description

I am unable to edit the application menu in Xubuntu 15.10. Menulibre says I do not have permission when I hover over the Delete button. Menulibre will not run as root (by design) so I am not sure exactly how I am supposed to edit the menu :)

If you move a previously undeletable item up or down, outside it's group - the delete button becomes available. Confirmation dialogue shows. This lets you confirm the deletion but nothing actually happens.

I believe it might help if you pointed out which launcher you are trying to delete; is it a system-created one? User-created? Created by another application? Where is the .desktop file for the launcher located?

I tried to delete half a dozen or so - the only ones that I could 'really' delete were items that I had created.

Logging out and back in again seems to "fix" the main menu updating.

Instead of deleting the launcher (indeed, it's a system-wide launcher), try making it hidden using the "Hide from menus" option.

Right - however.

Move an undeleteable item up or down outside it's category - then you can delete it.

no - seems it just appears to ask the right questions - nothing gets deleted

Correct. Other menu editors may use "delete" as the terminology, but they are only hiding the launcher from the menus. MenuLibre is functioning correctly in this case.

This also affects me with Xubuntu 16.04 up-to-date.
The 'delete item' button is not available (greyed out) and I hover over it, it says I don't have the permissions to do so.
Moving an item out of its category shows the delete button available but when it is pressed (and after confirmation that you want to delete), the item is still there and the delete button not available again.

This is annoying, I have duplicate menu items (all LibreOffice entrances) and wish to delete them.

I have the same problem, running GalliumOS 3.0. I noticed that the menu items that don't delete automatically when the software is deleted are all from 'outside' the usual realm of packages.

I'm sorry I'm new so I might not be using the correct terms, but for example when I deleted midori the menu item for midori didn't delete from menulibre, but I had installed it via snapd instead of synaptic. I had similar situations with software installed via methods other than synaptic or app grid.

I realize this is an old bug, but I thought I would mention it just in case it helps.
