Bug Description

Binary package hint: gthumb

gThumb does not allow to change picture's "Last modified date" to "Photo digitalization date (from EXIF data), which I had no problems with in Feisty. My system is Gutsy beta fully updated.

That suggests that the photo does not have an exif date tag.

Can you attach a sample photo?

Can you attach the original jpg file for testing?

The file shown in the screenshot is missing the DateTime tag, which is unusual. However, gthumb should still read the DateTimeOriginal tag, which is present.

I can not duplicate the problem with my own files.

Sure, I can attach the file if it can be uploaded, as the size is almost 1MB, and when I try to resize it with gThumb exif is removed completely.

You are right that if a file has DateTime tag in exif, then the changing date from exif in gThumb is active in Gutsy (chacked it with some other photos), but I've always been convinced that DateTimeDititized tag is taken when changing the date of the file. I have hp photosmart 935, which never produces DateTime tag which can be seen in the screenshot I uploaded previously.

The point is gThumb in Feisty could change the date of the file from exif even when DateTime tag was not present. It's not possible now in Gutsy version of gThumb. Besides I went through my pictures and noticed that if i want to modify the dates of my photos I prefer using DateTimeOriginal or DateTimeDigitized tags rather than DateTime tag, which is not when the photo was taken originaly taken.

Ah, the sample photo does have a "DateTime" tag, but it is full of spaces!

I have patched gthumb to check for this. A fix will be in 2.10.7.
