Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-pilot-conduits

The eMemo conduito does not sync anything with Evolution, version 2.12.0. Neither the memos on handhel goes to Evo nor the Evo ones goes to the handheld.

No error messages are thrown, no crashes. The others conduits work fine.

Using Palm Z22 and Gutsy Gibbon.

I have the same problem. Syncing worked flawlessly in Fiesty. Moved to Gutsy and then I started having problems with syncing memos. My symptoms are the same as those of the submitter of the bug report. No error, no crash but can't get the memos to sync from the device to the laptop or vice versa.

My Palm device is a Treo 650.

I've done some testing...

I've gone into the eMemos conduit settings and set a one time action to "Copy from PDA".

Then I synced.

After the sync all the memos from the PDA were available in Evolution. Including new memos. One thing was different than before. It used to be that "Unfiled" memos on the PDA had the "Unfiled" category in Evolution. But now, they just have their category field left blank.

Then I created a new memo in evolution (blank category) and synced as usual.

The new memo was transfered to the Treo. However a duplicate "Unfiled" category was created after the sync.

Perhaps there's a problem with how unfiled memos are handled?

I'm still having problems with synchronizations of memos.

Recently I did the following:

1. I created a new memo in Evolution.

2. Sync with the Treo, no problem: the new memo is created on the Treo.

3. I modified the memo on the Treo.

4. Sync with the Treo. But after the sync the modifications I made in the memo on the Treo were not transfered to Evolution.

5. I set a one time action for eMemos to "Copy from PDA" and synced. Afterwards, Evolution has the modifications I made to the memo.

My versions are:

evolution-common 2.12.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-data-server 1.12.1-0ubuntu2
evolution-data-server-common 1.12.1-0ubuntu2
evolution-exchange 2.12.0-0ubuntu1
evolution-plugins 2.12.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-webcal 2.12.0-0ubuntu1

gnome-pilot 2.0.15-2ubuntu2
gnome-pilot-conduits 2.0.15-1ubuntu1

I can confirm this bug at Intrepid Ibex with Evolution version 2.24.3-0ubuntu1 and gnome-pilot version 2.0.15-2ubuntu4. The Palm device is a Palm Z22. Synchronizing and copying won't work, no matter what side you copy to.

Problems with the Z22 were discussed at length on the gnome-pilot-list back in 2007.
It seemed at the time to be definitely a kernel/udev timing problem.

I do not have a Z22 to test with, but a couple of ideas, if you're up to it, include:
o Try compiling the latest pilot-link and gnome-pilot source distributions.
These are pilot-link 0.12.3 (A new release is imminent, so you could even
check it out from source repository) and gnome-pilot 2.0.17.
o If you have an infrared port, try getting that configured and use a 'serial'
connection instead of 'usb' in gnome-pilot.
o try using the 'visor' kernel module instead of the direct libusb mode.
There are a couple of pages describing setting this up, such as:
       http://danielbaggio.blogspot.com/2008/02/installing-palm-z22-gnome-pilot.html
       http://howto-pages.org/palm_z22/

Sorry not to be more helpful.

I had this problem with a Tungsten C, but I was able to sync memos after disabling the MemoFile conduit (which syncs the memos as text files in ~/memo_file by default.)

Also, I created the same categories in Evolution that I have in my palm first, but it didn't sync until disabling the other conduit. I'm not sure if the Z22 has an additional problem with EMemo, but EMemo does conflict with MemoFile.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The version of Ubuntu your using is in End of Life status. More information may be found at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases As well, the package your using is updated and issue you reported should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Please repost a detailed error report and update the bug status. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
