Bug Description

This also appears to affect Draw despite what is stated below..

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer

Placing a rectangle, drawn directly in an A4 document with snap active and margins of 2 cm. Grid values of 1 cm and 3 points. The resulting rectangle is placed on the grid, but is moved down to the next grid point. Further vertical movement of the object or key points re-aligns the object away from the vertical grid by 0.05cm. Similar steps in an OpenOffice Draw document behave as expected. Corners and edges snap correctly when moved.

The attached file has the error. The bug disappears if the grid subdivider points is set to 4. Yukk.

I found this report a little difficult to understand, so here's my interpretation of it after some experimentation (reproducing the bug in the process). I hope this is accurate.

Open the document provided, then Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org Writer -> Grid; set Snap to grid, Visible grid, resolution to 1cm for both, subdivision to 1cm for both. Enable the Drawing toolbar in View -> Toolbars, then place a rectangle somewhere. Observe that Writer shows you the outline of the rectangle as it's drawing it, and then when you let go of the mouse button it actually places it one subdivision further down from where it said it was going to. Next (zoom in to 200% to see this) if you try to move the rectangle it doesn't snap properly to the grid, but snaps to something slightly offset from it.

This smacks of a rounding bug, perhaps.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
