Bug Description

I have a HP 8220 with a ATi X600 graphics card.

In Ubuntu 7.04 compiz worked very well, nice and smooth without any problems. that was out of the box.

I've even installed compiz-fusion later on and that worked very well.

Now in Ubuntu 7.10 compiz does not work. Not even with restricted drivers installed.

What up with that????

So how do I get past the blacklisting? seeing I had no issues in 7.04???

You can add SKIP_CHECKS=yes to ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager
(by running "echo SKIP_CHECKS=yes >> ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager" at a terminal, for example) to skip all the startup checks. However, your driver/card combination has been blacklisted for a reason - people were reporting random system lockups with your card/driver and Compiz.

Alternatively, you can install the restricted drivers and the xserver-xgl package.

Thanks Chris

Installing xserver-xgl packages did the trick.

All works 100% no lockups for me yet...

Just to let everybody know

It's been running rock solid on my 8220 with ATi X600. No issues to date.

xserver-xgl works beautifully!!

thanks again
