Bug Description

Ubuntu 7.04 and evince 0.8.1.0.ubuntu1 - I cant successfully open any pdf documents. Attempts result in either a complete lockup with the entire screen black and a session that will not close, or an evince panel where the left hand side is grey and the right hand side white, or the entire screen inside the panel is white. the best ive been able to get is thumbnails across the top of the screen.Menus generally work but attempts to change display view generally result in a failed session that i have to kill. I have simply not been able to see any pdf using evince.

I had the same issue previously with edgy, and dapper, on this machine, which has an ati radeon 9600 XT video card and is using the fglrx driver. I apply all ubuntu updates.
i have a second machine also running feisty in which evince works fine. it doesnt have an ati video card.
I realise this isnt very usefull information for bug detection but
Im happy to assist where i can in tracking this down, as long as you treat me gently !!

Pedro
I have been unsuccessful in obtaining a back trace. Ive tried by running evince thru gdm, and attaching gdm to a running session.
with evince open, I open a pdf, and hit f5 (or select presentation view) and the session crashes.
However the gdb session never returns to the gdb prompt.
if i force quit the evince task, i get back tothe gdb prompt, but the program has closed and gdb cannot report anything.
Ive attached a screen shot, and the dbg output i get up to the crash.
Note the screen shot has an open window overlayed on top of the dead session, and also has the top and bottom panels, which are not visible when the crashed evince session is given the focus.

Tried again - I attached gdb to the session after the crash ( desperation??) and picked up the information in gdb-evince_2.txt.

Do you have compiz enabled? Does it happen without it? That's probably a issue with your video card and not an evince problem., thanks.

Tonight i upgraded to Gutsy, and Evince is now displaying pdf's correctly.
The upgrade did bring in a new version of the fglrx driver for the ATI card.
I had Direct Rendering enabled and composite disbled on feisty. ( ati drivers needed composite disabled to enable DR & i wanted DR)
After the upgrade direct rendering is disabled ( im not sure why, still got to work on that) , & whilst composite remains disabled in the xorg.conf, compiz effects are working on the desktop.
