Just to confirm, this was the alternate CD and not the desktop CD, correct?

   Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I don't know which one it is. I bought it on ebay. The label just says Ubuntu version 7.04. When I load it to my drive, autorun brings up the Ubuntu Browser that allows me to install any of 8 open source programs from Firfox to Clam...
   When I boot to the disk, it runs for a while in graphic mode and then suddenly starts listing out many errors in DOS mode.
   Maybe I should just download your new version 7.10 ???

OK, it sounds like you're using the desktop CD. It also sounds like you may have a poorly burned CD, though without the log files that's difficult to say for certain. Can you run the "check CD for defects" option on the first menu?

If that comes back with errors, then your only option is a new CD.

If you don't have access to a CD burner, you can get free 7.10 CDs through ShipIt (http://shipit.ubuntu.com), though that has a requirement of 384 MB of RAM. If you do not have a CD burner and only have 256 MB of RAM, you can purchase a CD of Ubuntu 7.04 at http://shop.canonical.com.
