Bug Description

When trying to install Kubuntu, checking the "Format" box in the installer for a partition causes this crash:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_components/PartitionModel.py", line 66, in setData
    item.partman_column_format_toggled(value.toBool())
AttributeError: 'int' object has no attribute 'toBool'

Choosing a partition, clicking "change" and choosing the format option in the appearing dialogue box does not cause the crash.

Result of lsb_release -rd:

Description: Ubuntu 17.04
Release: 17.04

Result of apt-cache policy ubiquity:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Here is the MD5 sum: 82e6833e66407e50d46d3c4b77212105 kubuntu-17.04-desktop-amd64.iso

It matches up with the one listed here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/zesty/release/MD5SUMS

As such I am re-opening this bug.

Hrm.. I am pretty sure I have seen a few bug reports like this now with 17.04 where it looks like partman is going off the rails:

I'm trying to install Kubuntu 18.04 on a Chromebook (that's been running Ubuntu) and this bug is still present. When I go to click the format box the installer crashes.

I had an older 18.04 iso on my PC which I was using. I'm going to try Kubuntu 18.04.1 to see if that works?

sadly it turns out im not allowed to have another OS since its a work pc so i found a way to get around it since ubuntu doesen't want to fix it

Boot live session > open "kde partition manager"
format the drive/s you wish to use and leave them unformatted
you can now add the partitions in the installer and the drive/s are already formatted

by default it will check the box to format when you add the new partition which does not cause a problem/crash.
