Bug Description

1) I am using Ubuntu 7.10, Icould not rename my created file on desktop.

2)Also I find my difficulty on adding or updated programs. I have follow the pop up screens, still I find an error msg as below:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

3) I could not update my system cos Ihave the 2nd error message on my screen. Please kindly help and hope to have it done ASAP./

please execute sudo dpkg --configure -a

and then try to update a package

Hello,

I tried to execute the 'dpkg --configure -a' under GNOME 2.18.2, I find the the following .

we000you@we000you-laptop:~$ dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege

Please kindly tell me what should I do, I am new on Ubuntu.

I am so sorry. I tried but it turn up as below :

we000you@we000you-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg-- configure-a
[sudo] password for we000you:
sudo: dpkg--: command not found
we000you@we000you-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg-- configure-a
sudo: dpkg--: command not found
we000you@we000you-laptop:~$

It is not easy as what I am imagine.

Please kindly advice and give me more instructions so that I can try to using Ubuntu continually.

I have fixed and updated my system finally. The system is running smoothly fine.

But I still could not rename the folder that I created on the HOME desktop. May I know why please ?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
