Bug Description

Hello,

I am currently working to try and get an Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64 network install to work completely automated. I have tried for several days to try and get by without the keyboard detection occurring. In each instance we get some window (which I will take screen shots of and attach to this bug request) which requests the user to press keys to try and detect the keyboard type. Even when I put in the preseed configuration file I still get those requests coming up. I have followed all the different preseed examples in the ubuntu documents and none of them appeared to work. I will attach all the information after this entry.

Regards,

James

Hello,

This problem also occurs on the i386 version of Gutsy.

You cannot use preseed *file* to change keyboard layout since these questions appear *before* CDROM even accessed.
You can use kernel parameters tought. Try:

append console-setup/ask_detect=false console-setup/layoutcode=us ......

in isolinux/isolinux.cfg file.

cheers,
Gergely

Gergely is correct. You must place such preseeded values in the initrd. See section B.4.1 of the installation-guide.

Marking as invalid as this is not a bug.

Changed in cdebconf-keystep:
status: New → Invalid
