Bug Description

Binary package hint: dolphin

System
Kubuntu 7.10 (frequently updated), upgraded from the original installation of Kubuntu 7.04
Dolphin 0.9.2 using KDE 3.5.8

Hw/Sw platform:
Athlon 2600 single core.
GForce 5200 FX (using proprietary nvidia drivers)

Details:
The hard disk is totally full. There are lot of huge temp files coming from dolphin application, located in /tmp/kde-userlogin

After a more detailed monitoring, I noticed that dolphin was dumping one of those files during the access to the dvdrom to watch a movie. Following that path, I noticed that this kind of files appears when the dvdrom unit is accessed, independently from the content.

I only have a Pioneer dvd rewriter device installed in the system.

Here I copied the console output of the content of the /tmp/kde-myuser folder. At that moment, the partition was full.

I cat confirm this behaviour. I am running Kubuntu 7.10 on Intel processor system, Asus A8F to be precise. I have KDE 3.5.9 installed from unsupported Kubuntu repositories.

Dolphin behaves strange when I load a DVD and upon popup ask it to open the
disk in dolphin.

The DVD drive starts working very hard, all other processes become very slow. The
free space on / is decreasing rapidly, and many strange files appear in

I have to run
dg@bala:/tmp/kde-dg$ killall d3lphin

before I am able to eject the disk, only then the system becomes responsive.

Sorry for reopening the bug again, but I still have detected this strange behaviour

the difference is that I have changed the HDD (a bigger one) and now the HDD is not full. But the same big files in the /tmp folder are created

Data:
Using latest Dolphin 0.9.2 under KDE 3.5.10 (KUbuntu Hardy)
A DVD with big files in the DVD-Drive
After opening the files, the System is hung with the same commented behaviour

@Jonathan Thomas
Maybe the bug is solved for KDE4 (I don't know), but as KDE3 is still supported via Hardy, is it fair to close the bug only because it is solved in the KDE4 version of Dolphin?

I confirm that I still have this bug in KDE3 branch.

Unfortunately, the fix for this bug (use the KDE4 version of Dolphin) does not qualify for an SRU. (See: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/StableReleaseUpdates) Furthermore, the KDE4 version of Dolphin is already available to Hardy users. (Install dolphin-kde4)

Even though KDE3 is still supported with Hardy, the KDE3 version of Dolphin is rather unmaintained, and would only see any code changes if a security issue was found with it.
