Bug Description

The latest update (5.3.0-1) fixed Bug #1809814 but now the scrollbar is not showing up although activated and all pads appear maximized. Besides that the overview list is showing only numbers and not any text of the pads.

Version: 5.3.0-1
OS: Arch Linux

Thanks for the report, Nick.

The scrollbar and the pad titles I can reproduce, so I can fix it.
I do not see the maximizing part on my desktop, however it might be related to the same regression.

Would you mind to share a screenshot of the maximized issue?
And how to reproduce it?

You're welcome Arthur. Thank you for replying.

I have partly sensitive information in my pads, that I don't want to share, but I can tell you how it looks like. E.g. I have one long pad, which exceeds the top and bottom of my screen, so some content from the top and some content from the bottom are hidden, which also means the horizontal lines of the pad are also hidden. I assume you can easily reproduce it if you fill one pad with enough content which exceeds the top and bottom of your screen.

Hi Nick,

The issues with the pad title and the pad scroll bars should be fixed in Xpad version 5.4. I have already submitted the fixes.

Regarding the other issue, I believe this is an existing bug.
I will try to describe it, correct me if I am wrong if this is not what you experience.

It is possible for the pads to become larger than the size of the desktop area.
For example, disable the scrollbars and create a new pad and keep adding information to it, until the bottom of the pad becomes longer than the size of the screen.

And for you this bug has surfaced due to the missing scrollbars. If scrollbars are disabled, then the size of the pad will extend to fit the text. Which can be 10 times the size of your desktop.

I need to give this part a better thought how to fix this. For example, when the pad intents to auto extend beyond one of the borders of the desktop, it should automatically enable the scrollbars for that particular pad. Or maybe, block the addition of text to make sure it will always fit on the screen. Or maybe, extend the pad in both length and width to fit the text. Or maybe, ... :)

If you have suggestions, I am all ears.

Hi Arthur,

thanks for replying and for your quick fix.

You're right, there is nothing to correct...

"For example, when the pad intents to auto extend beyond one of the borders of the desktop, it should automatically enable the scrollbars for that particular pad."
This sounds very logical to me.
Maybe it would help to make a decision if you take into account multiple monitor setups.
In my setup, I use 3 different monitors with different resolutions, one of which lies vertically on the right side and all my pads most of the time are opened on the monitor placed in the middle, but sometimes I drag them around.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.
I have a two monitors myself to from time to time, also with different resolutions (not handy). :)

Multiple monitor setups can be complicated, so in that case I am hoping for help from the GTK framework. Implementing something like that myself is probably complex and out of my league. ;-)
