Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

The mail list in InBox (Evolution Mail-Exchange) is not same as the list while I use Firefox to access my exchange mail server. (of cause I close Evolution before I open Firefox to access my exchange mail server)
Some un-read and read message does not show on evolution, but the link status is till OK. I can send a new mail to my-self and will display on evolution well.

Work-Out:
I delete the original account (exchange) on Evolution and add another one with same setting but different display name. Well, it looks better. At least more mails are listed in InBox.

I have a similar situation but when viewing mail messages through webmail. I'm able to fix the mismatch messages by deleting the .evolution directory

This are the steps that specifically causes this scenario with me:
1. Open evolution to download list of messages
2. Close evolution
3. Login to Exchange webmail
4. Move/delete messages from a directory
5. Log out
6. Start evolution

The email list still appears as it was before executing step 2. If there are new messages, they do not show up. However, the alert icon appears and the directory is in bold and it's showing the number of new mail messages. I go back to webmail after closing evolution to confirm that there is indeed a new message.

I have the eact same issue as described above. Kubuntu 8.04.
Evolution 2.22.3.1.

The fix Keith proposes only works temporarily. Then again emails get "missing".

I have the same problem in 8.10 with Evolution 2.22.3.1 where after a restart of the Exchange mail server Evolution locked up. I killed the evolution processes but when I started evolution again it showed an Inbox that didn't match up with the inbox that I saw through Outlook WebAccess or Outlook. Removing the .evolution folder as suggested above seemed to fix the problem and Evolution is now showing all the messages in my Inbox with the correct number listed as unread.

I have the same problem, running Ubuntu 8.10 with Evolution 2.24.2. The folder pane shows 1 (or more) unread messages, however the listing will not download them from the server. If I go through firefox, and read the message, then evolution will show correctly, no unread messages and the "missing" message will appear in the file listing.

This does not happen all the time, only occasionally. The exchange mail server does not appear to lock-up, as those in the office running Outlook don't have a problem and I can view everything through the web portal. I would be more then happy to help diagnose if requested.

I also have the same problem, ubuntu 8.10 running evolution 2.24.3-0ubuntu1 (ubuntu-proposed repo).

What happens is that if I open MS Outlook and view new/unread emails (and they get marked as "read"), those messages won't show up in Evolution afterwards unless Evolution saw them at the same time (i.e. Evolution was also running). Like some have suggested, I tried wiping my .evolution/ folder, and rightly enough, _while_ Evolution is downloading/refreshing the OWA folders, the messages are previewed in my Inbox folder etc, however when the download/refresh is done, the mails disappear.

I tried manually looking in .evolution/mail/exchange/<accountname>/folders.db with sqlite3, and I was able to find the missing messages there (table "personal/Inbox"), so Evolution obviously know that they exist, but they do not show up anywhere (I've checked and double checked that there aren't any filters or special views active).

If I open Outlook again, mark the missing messages as "unread", wipe my .evolution/-folder again and restart Evolution, the messages appear just fine.

I was able to reproduce this error/bug on a cleanly installed version of ubuntu 8.10 as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try the same with Karmic or Jaunty ? Thanks in advance.

Dear Pedro,

I'm sorry, I cannot help, since I stopped using Evolution (and Ubuntu....)

Kind regards, Rob

I have since stopped using evolution for reason other than this bug -
evolution didn't seem to be getting along well with MS exchange... I will
most likely try again in a while - if I learn any more regarding this bug I
will do my best to report it (and any permanent fixes) to the community.

This is not really an issue to me. I use 9.04 and 8 as well, there are problems, but not really this one. Sometimes happens that I have to restart evolution frontend, because it complains stg. unsuccesfull, and no use pressing "Send/receive" . The backend is quite stable now.
The strange things are:
- I see different set of messages on U8 and U9. This can be caused by some different setting, or the different knowledge of the local SPAM database, but could not frame this one till now.
- Some html messages just fool the quick view panel. Such message just freeze in the panel, no way to display other message there. Opening any message in separate window works.

I use Evolution 2.26.1 with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty), and I still have the same probleme that some un-read and read message does not show on evolution (Evolution Mail-Exchange) but are present on firefox. Using an imap connection solve the problem (but you don't have the calendar any more).

Hi again, I've read an old entry that indicated:

" The solve for me:

delete the cache folder...
set in folder properties:
- local sync NO
- apply filters NO "

Well, I've done these steps and now I can see all my sent items in my evolution. Before of doing these steps I closed evolution with next sentence: "evolution --force-shutdown"

When I activated the apply filters I noticed that they didn't work properly but I just ignored it and I forgot to delete them.

Regards

Miguel
