Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

VLC media player 0.8.6c Janus
The program '.' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 472 error_code 11 request_code 148 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Above messages are seen on stdout after running vlc on the commandline.
Vlc does not even show any GUI, it simply seems to crash.

I noticed vlc stopped working after an automatic upgrade today of xserver:

  xserver-xorg-core (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8) to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.2

When above xerver version is forced back to 8, vlc works again.
So the bug might also be in xserver iso vlc.

The update of today fixes vlc:
    xserver-xorg-core (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.1) to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.3

Note that X has to be restarted though for the new xserver code to work.

So I guess this bug can be closed.
