looks ok for me. afaiu the daemon is started as root, then calls setuid according to the configured user (and the default configuration is having a user other than root configured).

one thing: there is an upstream release 2.0.1; would this be better supportable for the LTS?

It would be nice yes but 2.0.1 is less than a month old, and I dont see it in debian anytime soon before feature freeze.

it is true that the 2.0.x version is relatively new and not yet in Debian. 1.0.7 was released on July 25, 2007. Independently of the availability in Debian, please decide which version is better suited for the LTS release.
