I tried Mythbuntu 8.04 Beta, installed the proprietary drivers as prompted, and find that my HDMI connection is used (as desired), but that the solid-background screen freezes along with the rest of the system. I was forced to reinstall and avoid the proprietary drivers (not desireable). Perhaps the problem lies with the particular display? Windows XP Pro SP2 likes it just fine. I'd really like to be using the proprietary drivers since the xorg-driver-ati and xorg-driver- radeonhd drivers aren't nearly as capable.
