Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Here is my install log of the package from the "Synaptic Package Manager":

Commit Log for Thu Feb 7 02:36:38 2008
Upgraded the following packages:
flashplugin-nonfree (9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12) to 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.1

After installing package youtube videos would not play. I tried closing firefox and re-openning, then I tried rebooting the computer. I could not get the you tube videos to play (The error message from youtube said I was using an old outdated version of Flash). Unfortunatly I did not try any other sites that may have used flash. I then Downgraded back to the "9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12" package.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite M45-S359
With Xubuntu 7.10 Gutsy
xfce 4.4.1

Steps to reproduce problem:
1) Install update.
2) Go to Youtube.
3) Attempt to watch any video.

Same here.

It might work if you run:
dpkg -r flashplugin-nonfree
dpkg --purge flashplugin-nonfree
apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

But however:
The new version doesn't work with konqueror, which is painfull to all of the KDE users who perfer to use konqueror instead of firefox.

Flash 12.1 does not work at all on firefox for me. Have not tried it on any other browser. Downgrading back to the old version resolves it... Sigh.

Thanks that worked, and the new flash player is way better then the old. The last version put full screen in a window, but now it is actually full screen. Sweet :)

OK. The above fix works (don't forget to add "sudo" before each command). But surely the purge (or a similar fix) should be in the auto-update, otherwise it will screw a lot of people over who don't know how to sort out such things?

I guess this could basically be marked as a duplicate of bug #175255 ...?

Cyrus: I'm sorry, I don't think your request is clear. What sort of confirmation and / or issues are you asking about? Did you mean "if you can tell that this is something else than bug #175255, please provide evidence to support that?"

I apologize, I was not clear at all. Does 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2 (in gutsy-updates) fix your problem? I say this because this version was published on 2008-02-07, and probably built later, after any references to the existence of the bug.

If it was not fixed with that package, could you provide the output of the Terminal, if upgraded through apt-get. Using installed version 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12, run sudo apt-get update, and then sudo apt-get upgrade. Paste the output as a comment/

sideshownick refers to the old version of the package. Could you please specify? I would assume you mean 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12. If so, then I believe this should have been fixed by 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12.2 as this would be the install error when the old tar is still on the hard disk.
