Bug Description

Binary package hint: konqueror-nsplugins

After installing the latest flashplugin-nonfree which btw was troublesome due to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/189870

Konqueror is no longer able to run flash applications like videos on youtube. I guess the bug is in konqueror-nsplugins, as the plugin works flawless in firefox.

Flash 12.1 does not work at all on firefox for me. Have not tried it on any other browser. Downgrading back to the old version resolves it... Sigh.

Fixed using the purge outlined in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/189870
(don't forget to add "sudo" before each command). But surely the purge (or a similar fix) should be in the auto-update, otherwise it will screw a lot of people over who don't know how to sort out such things?

Yes the fix in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/189870 fixes the installation issue which I think is a package problem.

But after installation and confirming it works in firefox it still doesn't work in konqueror. It crashes when it tries to load the plugin

The latest flash plugin indeed doesn't work in Konqueror, Mike Arthur wrote about a workaround using KMPlayer here http://mikearthur.co.uk/?p=171 (still got to try it out) and the explanation why it doesn't work is jotted down by Lubos Lunak here http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3162

Is there any way to temporarily roll back to the previous version? Maaan I regret I accepted the flashplugin update in adept :(

Why is an update released when it does destroy the functionality we want?

Because there are serious security holes in the previous one and Adobe broke the fixed one in Konqueror (see the links I posted). If you wan to use the previous one anyway, you can get an archive with the old versions here http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14266 Its 9r48 you're looking for, but remember that it has those security issues and some (not sure if any from that version though) are already exploited.
