Thinkpad T61 cannot record from docking station microphone

btw, my thinkpad seems to have intel hda sound

According to alsa-mailinglist, the bug is fixed in alsa-hg tree,
but it looks like this fix did not make it yet back to ubuntu.

it would be great if it could find it's way into ubuntu hardy.

It unfortunately appears this never got pulled into the Hardy kernel. However, the patch does appear to be in the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel which is currently being pulled together. I'll include the upstream patch's git commit id and description below for reference.

Would you care to test the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel? It is currently available in the following PPA:

If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following:

Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the following two lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Then run the command:

sudo apt-get update

You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. Please let us know your results. We could possibly get this into the Hardy 8.04.1 point release but it would be good to have confirmation first. Thanks.

I installed and booted into that kernel yesterday, but it did not work - the docking mic does not show up. Should I need to install/update anything else instead of the kernel image?

 linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 version .19 from proposed fixes this fro me and seems to work correctly so far.
