Please attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

The extensions -section has two methods to disable composite.. remove one of them and try to reproduce the crash.

OK, I will, but for what it's worth, this is Ubuntu's xorg.conf; I haven't
edited it manually, so either desktop-effects or the driver manager added
this redundancy.

Timo, I just got this crash again after completely resetting my xorg.conf and using the Restricted Drivers Manager to switch to fglrx. I expect that's a separate bug, but if you think it's causing this situation, maybe it's related.

Either way, I removed it manually and will see if this bug pops up again.

Hi Andrew, did removing the extraneous line solve the issue for you?

Bryce, maybe? I did comment it out, and I haven't come across the bug again yet, but I don't know if that fixed it or if it just hasn't crashed again. :)
