[Other info]
Hi,

Focal Fossa currently carries LLVM 12.0.0, which has a bug in its C API that renders it unusable as a backend for some compilers.

The upstream commit that fixes the bug is https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/commit/07234c7d6bc246925710b88a1f9552f678587165 and was included in their 12.0.1 release.

Would you be so kind as to backport 12.0.1 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, please?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

@Jeroen, I didn't backport the new release, just cherry-picked the fix.
(I'm pretty sure some backport will come eventually but better don't put too much stuff under the SRU Release Team hat)

I'll need you to test the build for focal and hirsute once SRU team accepts the package! :)

Hello Jeroen, or anyone else affected,

Accepted llvm-toolchain-12 into hirsute-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-toolchain-12/1:12.0.0-3ubuntu1~21.04.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Hi Timo,

I am happy to report that https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-toolchain-12/1:12.0.0-3ubuntu1~20.04.4 does indeed fix the problem. Odin's LLVM branch builds against it and passes its test suite.

Enabling proposed on Focal did not show any upgrades for LLVM. I ended up downloading and installing the build artifacts manually with `dpkg -i`. It worked fine.

btw installing works fine on focal for me
Get:16 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-proposed/main amd64 libllvm12 amd64 1:12.0.0-3ubuntu1~20.04.4 [18.8 MB]

maybe it was an outdated mirror or a not-yet-published binary
