Hi,

The relevant bit is

Setting up ghostscript (8.61.dfsg.1-1ubuntu2) ...

update-alternatives: error or eof reading /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/ps2pdf for update_mode ()

dpkg: error processing ghostscript (--configure):

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

Could you tell us if you have a /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/ps2pdf and if you do
what the contents of it are please?

Thanks,

James

Yes I do have such a file, but it's empty!

xxx@somerset:/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives$ ls -la ps2pdf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Feb 7 08:32 ps2pdf

Removing the file has fixed the problem, ubuntu-desktop, ghostscript and dependencies now install correctly.

Thanks.
John.

Hi,

It is odd that this file was truncated. Have you experienced any
power failures during upgrade? Are your hard disks reliable?

Thanks,

James
