moving files with special characters fails

When moving files with special characters (Ä,ö, é etc..) to an mounted ntfs partition it gives me the following error:
mv: inter-device move failed: `Albums/Madonna/03 Madonna - Like A Virg\355n.mp3' to `/media/

This is because ntfs-3g is ignoring locales when mounting the ntfs drive, at least when called from kde. I used to solve this in feisty by having a entry in fstab specifying "locale=pt_PT.utf8" among other options for the ntfs partitions/usb drives, but now on hardy if I have a fstab entry I can only mount the drive as root. ( bug #205081 )
