Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

with gutsy never had this problem. i've upgraded my system to latest restricted and kernel modules (03-03-08), tried without any xorg.conf and still there's no 3d and diagonal black triangles apear in fast motion.

(II) fglrx(0): [drm] Closed DRM master.

The other logs don't show it though, so perhaps it's coincidental.

I notice you're running XAA; have you tried using EXA instead? (I'm not sure if -fglrx uses EXA, but the acceleration type often has a performance impact.

Another thing to try, please try adding:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection

to your xorg.conf

Heya lod,

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

The bug also apeared to be fixed with this procedure :
Hang at logout

If you experience hangs when logging out (of X) it is probably due to the /etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh script looking for X authorisation files in the wrong place when it starts up. You can kill the hanging authatieventsd.sh processes from a console tty to allow the shutdown of the X server. This can be fixed permanently with:

sudo mkdir -p /var/lib/xdm/authdir
sudo ln -s /var/run/xauth /var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles
took from
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Intrepid_Installation_Guide

But then reappeared. I tried your fix, Bryce :
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection
And it works for the moment, but I'm not sure that changed anyhing :
[...]
(II) LoadModule: "glx"

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 7.4.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 1.1
(--) AIGLX enabled
