Bug Description
Binary package hint: dbus
Updating dbus in hardy to the new 1.1.20 stable version would be nice since it fixes quite some issues.
The upstream notes mention this:
"This is the next generation supported STABLE release of D-Bus. For all intents and purposes this is the 1.2.0 release WITHOUT the planned X11/MIT license change due to a couple of license holders who have yet to respond. For the most part this license change is being pursued to simplify licensing issues and fix a couple of licensing corner cases. When this happens D-Bus will be released under the 1.2.0 version."
One of the gvfs hackers was also asking about it because he's getting deprecated function warnings when using the current hardy version which is fixed in the new version
I reviewed the upstream changelog: gitweb. freedesktop. org/?p= dbus/dbus. git;a=blob_ plain;h= 901e0b0ce9765e6 5c30cb1de3c61a0 f477660154; f=ChangeLog

- 1.1.4 -> 1.1.20 is a few bug fixes and a security fix, so we want that
- 1.1.3 -> 1.1.4 is a bug fix for 1.1.3
- 1.1.2 -> 1.1.3 has a lot of changes: several dozen bug fixes and two new features:
* inotify support (to replace previous dnotify implementation); can be disabled with configure switch if it causes trouble
* matching support for program binaries in dbus policy rules; those are not used by any dbus policy in Hardy
The Debian packaging merged all our changes which apply to Debian too, and has a more rigid approach to changing the rc.d symlinks on upgrade, which will finally fix bug 25931 for good.
