https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-boxes/-/blob/42.2/NEWS

Test Case
---------
Install the update
Run GNOME Boxes
Click + then choose Ubuntu 22.04 in Featured Downloads
Complete the rest of the prompts to install and run Ubuntu 22.04 in your VM

What Could Go Wrong
-------------------
GNOME Boxes is part of core GNOME (specifically the developer tools section) and falls under the microrelease exception

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

A bug in GNOME Boxes won't affect other apps but it could lead to lost data if people store critical information in their "boxes" (virtual machines)

Chris Halse Rogers (raof) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-boxes into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-boxes/42.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

The gnome-boxes upload appears to remove the entire subprojects/gtk-frdp tree? On inspection it appears that this is unused by the Ubuntu package, but it would have been nice to flag that up-front to save me some investigation.

Sorry about that. The subproject was readded in the 42.3 release (that was the only change from 42.2 to 42.3). The subproject is only needed if we build the RDP option which is disabled by default so we don't build it.

I installed the update from proposed pocket (42.2-0ubuntu1).

I chose 20.04 in featured downloads, since 22.04 wouldn't download because of its replacement by 22.04.1 (LP: #1985219).

I also performed the 22.04 installation from a ISO file.

Both operating systems were successfully installed and they functioned appropriately.
