Bug Description

[Impact]

 * Users of hybrid Nvidia/Intel graphics on KDE Plasma are experiencing performance issues when notebook computers are connected to external displays.

 * In many cases, these users are not warned and/or do not know why their computer is having difficulty rendering. The simple fix is to run in Nvidia (Performance) mode when using external monitors, but users sometimes aren't aware of this when they decide to use the more power-efficient hybrid mode.

 * This has been observed in every model of Kubuntu Focus M1 and M2 computers (all five generations of M-series computers use Intel/Nvidia graphics)

 * The uploaded fix has a simple warning that appears when switching to Hybrid Graphics (on-demand mode): "Not Recommended if Using External Monitors" to act as a deterrent.

 * Granted, this warning may not apply to all users of hybrid graphics, but this is known to be a fairly common issue when using external monitors on hybrid graphics on KDE Plasma.

[Test Plan]

 * Set graphics to hybrid mode (notice no warning)

 * Plug into external montior

 * Notice performance issues

[Where problems could occur]

 * Users can ignore this warning to their own potential detriment.

 * This may not be an issue at all for some users, in which case this warning doesn't apply to them.

Hello Erich, or anyone else affected,

Accepted plasma-optimus into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-optimus/22.04.2-0ubuntu3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

I can confirm that this has been tested on several systems at Kubuntu Focus's testing bench and is working very well.
