Bug Description

Impact
------
Ubuntu is supposed to show a browser popup window when a user connects to a network with a "captive portal". The popup window makes it easy for the user to log in or accept the user agreement.

This popup window was broken and doesn't currently show up in Ubuntu 22.10.

What Could Go Wrong
-------------------
This fix is included in the upstream gnome-shell 43.1. For more information about this update, see LP: #1997481

Original Bug Report
-------------------
After an upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to 20.10 NetworkManager no longer recognizes captive portals.

Attempting to run /usr/libexec/gnome-shell-portal-helper produces this output:

(process:166068): Gjs-CRITICAL **: 19:25:08.053: JS ERROR: ImportError: No JS module 'fileUtils' found in search path
@resource:///org/gnome/shell/portalHelper/main.js:13:30
@<main>:1:14

This may be normal because of the environment, but it is the best I have to go on now.

Hello Mark, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-shell into kinetic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/43.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-kinetic to verification-done-kinetic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-kinetic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

I installed gnome-shell 43.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 22.10. After logging in and logging out, I verified that the login page popup correctly showed and worked when I connected to a captive portal. The popup correctly did not show when I connected to a Wifi point that didn't require logging in.
