Bug Description

[ Impact ]

Flash-kernel only supports boards maintained in the db/all.db database.

We want to be able to support the 'Sipeed Lichee RV Dock' and the 'PolarFire Icicle Kit' in Jammy.

The database entries are copied from the Lunar/Kinetic version for the package.

[ Test Plan ]

As the database entries are the same as in Kinetic they already received some testing.

Check that no entry is deleted in the database.

Boot the LicheeRV board using the 22.04 Nezha image. Set /etc/flashkernel/machine to 'Sipeed Lichee RV Dock'. Reboot the board. Check that /proc/devic-tree/model has the value 'Sipeed Lichee RV Dock'.

Boot the PolarFire Icicle Kit. Set /etc/flashkernel/machine to 'Microchip PolarFire-SoC Icicle Kit'. Reboot the board. Check that /proc/devic-tree/model has the value 'Microchip PolarFire-SoC Icicle Kit'.

[ Where problems could occur ]

We could by mistake delete entries for other boards in the database.

We could create a database file that flash-kernel cannot parse.

This could lead to errors in booting other systems.

Both causes are not probable as we copy the entries from Kinetic where testing already has occurred.

The upload is good, but I'll tweak the version number a bit.

Hello Heinrich, or anyone else affected,

Accepted flash-kernel into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flash-kernel/3.104ubuntu15 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Tested flash-kernel-2022.01+dfsg-2ubuntu2.1 successfully on Jammy

The debdiff contains only additions to db/all.db. No deletions.

On the PolarFire Icicle Kit board device-tree microchip/mpfs-icicle-kit.dtb is copied to /boot/dtbs and linked correctly. Reboot with the device-tree is successful.

On the Sipeed Lichee RV Dock board device-tree allwinner/sun20i-d1-lichee-rv-dock.dtb is copied to /boot/dtbs and linked correctly. Reboot with the device-tree is successful.

On the SiFive HiFive Unmatched board device-tree sifive/hifive-unmatched-a00.dtb is copied to /boot/dtbs and linked correctly. Reboot with the device-tree is successful.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for flash-kernel has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
