Bug Description

2.6.24-12-generic on IBM T-30 Thinkpad 845 Brookdale chipset

During boot system hangs for several minutes, the reports "Loading hardware drivers Failed."
The result is a very incomplete xorg.conf. Trackpoint is detected as generic mouse, and trackpoint scrolling does not work. While snd modules are existing as of today's upgrade, no sound card is detected.
The following is from xorg.conf found in xresprobe. No xorg.conf in /usr/share/X11/

Problem with "loading hardware drivers failed" persists. Kernel is to to date in 2.6.24-12 as of Mar.27, 08

Xorg.conf same as above. Including /proc/bus/input/devices with this post:
Currently, no audio device detected, no wireless, synaptics touchpad not scrolling.

Ok. I was finally able to resolve this problem to some extent.

Cleaned up dmesg greatly by adding "lapic" to the kernel line in kernels 2.6.22-14 and 2.6.24-12.

Also changed a config setting for cpu to "custom" in the system bios.

Finally ran "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.

An xorg.conf file was written to /etc/x11 where previously there had been none...only something in /usr/share/xresprobe....I believe.

Anyway dmeg looks much better. Synaptics touchpad is finally scrolling and 2.6.22-14-generic seems good.
Still no sound in kernel 2.6.24-12.

Ack. forgot to mention, also removed "ro" from the kernel line when adding "lapic" as previous the was an error in dmesg to the effect "failed to write.......to read only"

Hi spiderbatdad,

With the most recent 2.6.24-19 hardy kernel, can you clarify what the remaining issues you have are, if any? Thanks.
