Bug Description

All news videos fail to deploy, as are all YOUTUBE videos. However, using DOWNLOAD HELPER allows me to save any unseen video clips, and play them offline on VLC PLAYER. Also anywhere a flash player is needed, nothing happens.... even after I installed the required programs or codecs.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It be helpful if you gave us an exact url to use so we can try and recreate this bug report. Additionally, could you please try this with a new profile?

You can do this by executing 'firefox -ProfileManager' in a terminal. Please be careful as your are also able to delete profiles including your existing one. In the profile manager you'll want to click 'Create Profile...' which will start the 'Create Profile Wizard'. Click 'Next' and enter a descriptive name for the new profile. Click 'Finish' to have Firefox create the new profile. You should now be back at the Profile Manager where you should select the new profile and click 'Start Firefox'. Please try recreating the bug with this new profile and report back the results.

You can go back to your original profile by starting Firefox via 'firefox -ProfileManager' again, selecting your own profile and clicking on 'Start Firefox'.

This has only happened with UBUNTU HH, I can get no video at all using this version, nor any flash player required programs. Nothing wrong with my PC, as I kept Windows XP on my HDD, and UBUNTU loaded on a separated partition. The Windows side works perfectly. I would advise anyone wanting to use UBUNTU to keep also Win XP for backup. It takes a long time to get used to new systems.

Bob, please don't change the description and the title of a closed bug report. This report has been closed because the submitter didn't answer to our request for information.

Furthermore, don't change it for something different from the original issue but fill a new report instead. We can mark it as duplicate if it appears to be the same issue (which is likely not the case on this one)

When you'll fill your report please refer to the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, and provide the following informations:
* Which flash package do you have installed ?
* The output of about:plugins in the address bar ?
* Which Firefox extensions do you have installed ?

This will greatly help us to solve your issue,

Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Jean, Sorry, not familiar with Ubuntu and other stuff... only with Windows, which is Automated Bug Fixing type system. I thought it strange that the response bit required me to erase the original to make my point about bugs in Firefox working in UBUNTU... Perhaps Ubuntu/Firefox can come up with an automated bug-reporting tool inbuilt so newbies like me don,t have to gripe about strange systems we know bugger all about. I can work with MS-DOS, but cant understand LINUX basic commands at all, so I leave them alone. Considering UBUNTU is pushing it's product to try and take away clients from MS, (great if they can do it!) making an automated bug reporting and repair system will make it so much easier. I still cant get any of my newer printers to work on UBUNTU (only the old pin printers and canon 265) so it need a better system for full driver support or convince manufacturers to include a search-for-system tool, and have appropriate drivers and
programs ready on their CD's. ( I have now a FUJI-XEROX 203A black laser pr, plus a HP F2179 all-in-1, plus a Lexmark X1270 all-in-1, and NONE of them work with UBUNTU. I have given up and formatted my HDD and formed 2 partitions, with re-loaded MS-WIN-XP on "C", and UBUNTU on "D". If I need to do OFFICE WORK, then I am forced to use WIN-XP side. But internet is safer with UBUNTU. Luckily there is the NTFS access to MS for file-sharing. Bob Koomans

Hi bob, that's fine. no worry.

You can refer to http://www.ubuntu.com/community/reportproblem and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for guidelines on how to report bugs in Ubuntu.

There is a tool named "apport" to automate the collect of informations and reporting to launchpad. For example, if you want to report a bug against Firefox, just open firefox, and you can access apport from the Help menu via Help -> Report a problem .

Regarding updates, an icon appears in the notification area of your desktop when new updates are available. Just click on it to access to the software update tool. This can be configured via System -> Administration -> Software source in tab "Updates"

Finally, you can request support the Ubuntu forums, the #ubuntu channel on the Freenode IRC server, or the ubuntu-users mailing list.

I hope this helps and that you will enjoy using Ubuntu.

You most likely have a bogus extensoin installed. move your
$HOME/.mozilla directory away (to a backup location) ... and see if
things improve.
