[dapper] gnome-terminal --full-screen fails randomly

Bug Description
To reproduce:
open a terminal.
type 'gnome-terminal --full-screen'
This should start a full-screen terminal; however, around 40% of the time the
terminal flickers to fullscreen and then settles to a normal 80x24 window.
No error messages I can see.
