Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or upload (as an attachment) the crash report from /var/crash/.

Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

I first found this bug when I try to download a torrent file from this website: http://www.deadfrog.us/.
But now every time I try to download any file from any site, firefox crashes when finish downloading.

Which flash package do you have installed?
Adobe flash player 9

Which Java package do you have installed?
I don't know. Ubuntu Hardy default?

Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?
I attached ExtensionSummary.txt above. I don't think this problem came from extension. Because I didn't have this bug at firefox 3.0 beta5.

I also attached gdb-firefox.txt log file.

I finally found what makes this problem. After I disable "Prism for firefox" plug-in, I have no bug now.

I can confirm both the bug and the solution. Since upgrading to RC1 from hardy-proposed, every time I attempt to download something FF crashes. Disabling the Prisim extension resolves this issue?

I don't ever remember installing this plug in. Is it installed by default?

A new profile doesn't see to have this extension installed. So I guess it is not installed by default despite the fact I don't ever remember installing it. So Alexander is right.

ok, try the packaged prism shipped by ubuntu if you want to use
it. Its cool. run apt-cache search prism to see the prepacked webapps.

anyway, prism packages dont cause issues with firefox in
ubuntu. closing that task too then.

I have found this same bug in the firefox 3 rc. Uninstalling the prism extension did eliminate the crashing on downloads. However, I am conerned that moving this bug report to invalid is wrong. Prism is a major new feature of this new release of firefox where you are to be able to make "webapps" out of any website with the prism extension. If the extension is cause crashes it needs to be fixed. Is there a way to create a bug on an extension? Maybe it needs to go into firefox's bug system instead of Ubuntu's... If that is the case I am willing to make the effort.

I am hooked on Prism for an number of my apps and looking forward to it moving to 0.9 in the ubuntu repo's. Any idea when that is to happen??

Thanks!

creating a new profile does not solve anything for me. if i create a fresh new profile and then add the extension, FF crashes. not having the extension installed gets rid of the problem, but does not get me the functionality that extension was to deliver (namely creating new webapps directly from FF). It is still a valid bug somewhere. I filed a new bug on firefox's bugzilla (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438698). Perhaps they can solve it there. It got marked as major so someone involved appears to be taking it seriously, which is all a guy can ask.

Thank you. I agree with you 100% on both the problem, the app causing the problem and that it is a bug (somewhere). I had the exact same experience you did and after the recent repository upgrade of Prism to the a newer version (i think), I tried it again... Prism still works fine, but FF extension does not.

Thanks for the bug link.

Again! ... that extension is bogus and outdated. please use the ubuntu
prism package instead.

I think the problem is not with Firefox, but Prism, I have version 0.8

I had the standalone application installed with few preset Web apps from
Ubuntu repository and it still crushed and after that all my applications
failed to start (that means the same problem I had with the Extension). Most
probably it have some problems in saving any thing to disk. I've not tried
the 0.9 version.

Could you please try to get the nss and nspr packages from the
mozillateam ppa:

 https://edge.launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive

the packages you need are: libnspr-0d (4.7.1+1.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.2~mt1)
and libnss3-1d (3.12.0.3-0ubuntu0.8.04.1~mt1). If you had -dev
packages installed, pick them from the same version too.
