What were you dist-upgrading from, that needed this?

<tormod> do we have -driver-ati in any supported release?
<bryce_> maybe like dapper or something
we don't ship it any longer
<tormod> yes, dapper which is 5 years LTS...
5 years on server that is? without X?
<jcristau> but aiui upgrades from dapper need to go through hardy, so they'd drop that package at that point
 intrepid doesn't have to care
<tormod> jcristau: right

So it doesn't sound like this change is actually needed, although I've carried the change forward into the new -ati.

hm... I'm not entirely sure but I dist-upgraded either from hardy or from an earlier intrepid stage.

><jcristau> but aiui upgrades from dapper need to go through hardy, so they'd drop that package at that point intrepid doesn't have to care

and there's the flaw in the logic: Removing a package from the archive won't automatically remove it from a users system. As it looks, nothing ever replaced/conflicted against the -driver-* packages so these were simply left around on my system up to intrepid.

P.S.: I assume that it's safe to drop the conflicts after intrepid is released though.

Cheers,
   Stefan.

What is the exact error message that you got? (unfortunately the interesting details are not part of the output you've pasted).

I guess you could try
sudo apt-get -f install
to reproduce the error message.
