Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

Up-to-date intrepid
Installed: 0.9.4-1ubuntu1

Affected 32 and 64bit systems
With or without Compiz enabled

When opening video, vlc player starts the video in external window
rather than integrated interface like it used to.
Also when in fullscreen, controls don't appear, though selected in preferences.
(show a controller in fullscreen)

Tried to change the settings, with no avail.

Tried to remove .vlc/ with no effect, funny thing is that vlc didn't create new settings in home
LANG=C ls -la .vlc/
ls: cannot access .vlc/: No such file or directory

Note: Compiz visual effects enabled.

And in addition "Show a controller in fullscreen" does not work.

I can confirm that, it's a regression from 0.9.2 and 0.9.3 (where it worked) and the 0.8.XX series (except for the controller in full screen, which is a not so great 9.XX feature).

21:54:30 < xtophe> siretart: and it's to avoid #2136 that deactivated the embedded vout
21:54:52 < siretart> xtophe: aaah, so 0.9.4 disabled embedded vout completely, right?

so someone would need to apply that commit to the 0.9.4 branch

I'm running 0.9.4-1ubuntu3 but the full screen controls still do not appear, even though they're enabled. (As this was part of the original bug report, I wasn't sure if this bug should be marked fixed).

The bug number given in the trac ticket is different. It talks of a different thing. I'm on jaunty, specifically using 0.9.8.a and the issue is still not resolved .

Both

a. The screen is not integrated as the rest of the interface as well as
b. The Controller is not shown in full screen.

Both the options have been chosen in vlc media player in Tools > Preferences > Interface

using Native.

I removed .vlc and tried again but no effect. The issue is still there.

There doesn't seem to be a time-frame or any movement to fixing this bug.

Jaunty up-to-date, catalyst 9.4 from AMD ATI website.

Also I tried VLC 1.0 for Intrepid -but without chance under Jaunty (due different libs maybe)

Seeing this with vlc 0.9.9a and ubuntu 9.04 x64

the forum says that it's fixed in version 1.0 and that "There is no way we can backport the fix to 0.9 as it is way too invasive, and depends on 1.0 APIs"
