Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

I'm pretty sure what I'm asking here is impossible to do, so please close it as "wontfix" if it is.

To create a bootable disk, I used an usb disk which already contained personal data. I liked the fact that usb-creator would keep that data for me, but the resulting disk was a sea of files and folders where finding my own personal folders was really difficult.

Would it be possible -probably not- to alter the structure of the created disk so most data is located inside a "boot disk" folder?

This sounds like an excellent idea.

Another great extension could be to allow multiple source ISOs to be
selected, and create a boot menu to pick one of them

I don't know much about the differences between the layout of files on the
ISO and the USB, however if multiple ISOs can be made bootable with a single
USB partition, I'd be most happy.

one use case for this is to have a USB stick with both 32bit and 64bit
installers

Cheers

I'm VERY much in support of a more streamlined and straightforward usb install. flash drives are large enough that even with a bootable OS on one, there's lots of room for other data.

the unetbootin way of making a flash drive bootable is horribly cluttered. backtrack does it well. As does fedora's live USB creator.

i would like to dual-boot from flash drives without clutterring up the root directory too much.

It should be possible to put nearly all files in a subdirectory. If you install Partition Magic on a USB stick, there will be only two directories and a ldlinux.sys file.

syslinux supports a -d option to install its files in a subdirectory. We'll have to trick casper into bind-mounting this directory to /cdrom, otherwise we'll have to update all the installer code that looks /cdrom for specific data to look in two places.
