Projects/packages with one template should just show me that template

Bug Description

(Split off from bug 2718.) Projects/packages that have only one translation template should just show me that template, not give me a list with one item in it.

For example, https://launchpad.net/gnomebaker/+translations should just show me the "gnomebaker" template directly.

Something strange is going on here, where Steve is seeing a one-item list and I am seeing a table. We suspect that it may be geoip-related.

At any rate, we should indeed not show a one-item list.

I don't agree with this, as it is. If there's a page in launchpad that is to show you what translation templates there are, what what the status of translation is, then it should show similar stuff no matter if there is one or if there are many.

I think this bug report is actually talking about one or more workflows, and there being an unnecessary click within a workflow that involves a one-item page.

We should write down these workflows, and rephrase this bug in terms of the workflows, rather that making the bug about the contents of a particular page.

I agree with Steve on this one.

Indeed, one template per product/package is the most common scenario, but so is setting at least one preferred language (especially if you are a translator).

If you have set your preferred languages and there is just one template for translation, you'll see a table with status of that language translation for this particular template.

So, you'll get a single-item list linking to PO template overview only if there are no preferred languages, and the link takes you to the page which lists all available translations (so, on this page, you get the most relevant info for your work; you can get detailed overview by following the link).

While I'd like to keep the current workflow, I'd welcome suggestions for any wording changes (especially for links when preferred languages are set for you). We've got two links below the table in that case, and they don't read very nice: "Choose Preferred Languages..." and "View Template & All Languages...". Former may need to go away now that we've got a portlet for preferred languages on the same page (but maybe we want to make it more obvious when there are no preferred languages chosen as well), and latter doesn't sound too nice.

mpt, your thoughts on this?

I disagree with the premise that there should be "a page in launchpad that is to show you what translation templates there are". That's not nearly interesting enough to devote an entire page to it, especially when the page consists entirely of a list with only one item. It's like when we had completely separate pages for "bugs" and "tasks", so people had to navigate through a list of tasks to do anything useful.

Perhaps we could apply a similar fix here: redirect from the general page to a page for the most likely template, let the "Previous" and "Next" links navigate to adjacent templates once you get to the beginning/end of this one, and also provide direct links to the other templates from the footer of each translation page.

That's exactly what we are showing today: direct links to POFiles.
