Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

All the text files can not be opened with mouse click, and neither with command 'gedit' in terminal, I have to open files with 'sudo gedit' command, why does this happen?

Ubuntu 8.10
GNOME 2.24.1

I add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-proposed main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-security main universe

but the Synaptic asks for PUBKEY ECDCAD72428D7C01

How can I get it? thanks.

run 'gpg --recv-keys ECDCAD72428D7C01' in a terminal to fix the pubkey problem.

That's actually not enough. I updated the documentation for the usage of ddebs now:

   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

However, from the initial description it seems not to be a crash at all, but a permission problem. Which "text files" are you talking about? Some in your home directory? Are you trying to edit system files or files from other users?

1. Thanks for the command to add gpg key, I learn one more thing.

2. It is not the permission problem.

I tried to edit my .conkyrc file, so I used mouse to click on the file as I did in Ubuntu 7.04 to 8.04, the gedit window appeared, but few seconds later, the window turned into black and did not respond any more.

Then I tried to use command 'gedit ~/.conkyrc' in terminal, the same situation happened as I used mouse, finally, the file was opened with command 'sudo gedit ~/.conkyrc'.
