Bug Description

I have Kubuntu 8.10 64 bit Alternate iso and am installing this to a raid 0 array (2 drives setup in raid 0) with WinXP in the 1st partition. Before doing the install I input the install option "priority=low" I believe this gives the use access to all install options.

The installer's behaviour is different depending on whether one installs to a non-raid drive or a raid drive. In an non-raid setup the installer asks if you want to install grub, then if answer yes one can eventually get the option of where to install it? e.g. (hd0 it will go to the mbr, (hd0,2) will go to partition 3. In the raid setup the installer asks if you want to install grub (answer yes), then it asks do you want to install to the mbr? If respond with No the installer kicks you back to the question do you want to install grub? There is no way to manually install grub to some other partition other than the mbr.

Is there an option on the installer that can be used to bring up an option for the user to select where to install grub even in a raid setup or is this just a bug in the installer script?

Thanks.

There's a comment in the source code about this:

                        # Exit to menu if /boot is on SATA RAID/multipath; we
                        # don't support device selection in that case

Dustin, the reported behaviour is at slight variance with the comment (although I believe the reported behaviour, looking at line 763 of grub-installer that sets frdev to non-empty for mdadm). Was this deliberate? Can we fix it to offer device selection, which I do think would be a good idea?
